Electrical rotary switches

I came across these electrical rotary switches the other day while I was walking in the town area. I remember them. They were installed in a lot of old buildings, especially on the walls of the external facades of older buildings. Apparently, these were waterproof and you can see the screw-cap on the actual electrical socket. the knob below turned the power on and off. Does anyone know the actual name of these things or the company that makes them? I just called them rotary electrical switches because to me, that is what they are. I need to get some for an installation. If anyone can tell me more about them, that would be great.
