Electro-Voice ZX5-90 speakers

30/06/2014 Leave a comment

I was at an exhibition of sorts yesterday with my wife and I saw that the sound company had a couple of these Electro-Voice passive speakers set up on stands. Now from where I was, I found that these speakers did not sound good but I put that in to the fact that many a so-called “soundman” does not know certain fundamental things about EQ-ing a system. They were loud…I will give them that and they sounded pretty powerful. I went to the Electro-Voice website to check up on them (I had never heard of this model before or seen it with my own eyes, that is why) and these are the features of these speakers:

  • Versatile performance for mains, fills, or monitors
  • DVX3150A woofer with forced-air cooling
  • 2-inch ND2 titanium/neodymium HF driver
  • Switchable bi-amp or passive crossover operation
  • Choice of 90º x 50º or 60º x 60º coverage horn
  • High sensitivity, 132 dB maximum SPL
  • Power handling: 600 W continuous, 2400 W peak
  • High impact polypropylene enclosure
  • Wedge shape for monitors at 45º or 55º
  • Up to five anchor-plate attachments
  • M8 mounting inserts (10)
  • Integrated handle
  • Available in black or white

The ones I saw were the ZX5-90s so it makes perfect sense that the 90 refers to the horns that these particular ones had, i.e. 90 X 50 dispersion. These speakers come with a 15″ woofer and is made of composite material. I wonder if these things can really take 600 watts like what they say here. It could be just plain BS marketing. ut to be honest, they did look good and with better EQ-ing, they would sound pretty good.

Gardenia chocolate muffins

I bought a couple of packets of these lovely Gardenia chocolate muffins when I was in Malaysia doing a project last night. here I was, in the middle of the project, at about 3 in the morning, when I had hunger pangs. So I opened these muffins (first time I had ever bought them) and devoured them. They were very, very nice, with a generous helping of chocolate chips in the centre. To be honest, I just wish that they sold this in Singapore. I would stock up on them!

Pope Francis says it best

I really, really love our Pope. In my mind, he is one of the best Popes we have ever had and I am not alone in my love for him…others love him too!

Recently, there has been quite a storm kicked up in this country of ours about LGBT issues…but I must say that Pope Francis says it best. That is the best thing one can say about the LGBT issue.

Jonathan Butler

It must have been about 1991. Was it really that long? Yep. It sure was! I remember I was the resident DJ in a club in the Shenton Way area. I was looking for some music to play for happy hour. I remember looking through the record box and came upon this double LP n the Jive record label. Jonathan Butler. I saw that he held a guitar in the pictures on the album cover. I thought to myself…is this guy the next George Benson or something like that? I thought that I would give the album a try. Let me tell you this…I became a fan right there and then! When I left the club, I had to say goodbye to the LP because it was not mine. So what did I do? Go to the record shop to see if they had the CD. And would you believe it? They sure did! I was ecstatic! I paid up my money and the CD was mine!

I have played this CD at functions, used it on live radio as a backing track (Baranese is one example of one of the best instrumental tracks on this LP) and have even used it to lull myself to sleep. Lovely LP. get it…you won’t be sorry!

Fisherman’s Friend mints

I always have a bag of these in my bag or in my pocket. It’s not to say that I have a problem with my breath but let’s face it. Sometimes after a meal that contains lots of garlic for example. Your breath is gonna stink like no tomorrow. So before you meet clients for example, take one of these mints. They taste pretty good and a packet is relatively inexpensive. Take my advice…have a packet handy!

Letter from The Company Register

23/06/2014 Leave a comment

I think quite a few of us company and small business owners have been receiving this letter from this company which I just find out today, has 78 charges levied against them by ACRA undre the Companies Act. There is even this lady who runs a blog here that received a legal letter from Rodyk and Davidson, a reputable law firm, to remove the posts about this company from her blog, but she stuck to her guns, refusing to remove it.

Bravo!

I just checked my letter box and I received such a letter from this company. That is the scanned letter above with my personal data removed. Let’s see if they dare try to send a lawyer’s letter to me.

Starhub Personal Data Protection bullshit

Did any of you Starhub subscribers get this personal data protection bullshit from Starhub? I know I did and this is a screenshot from my email. It is not the full length of the letter but a portion, but it is enough to tell you that Starhub is not being sincere. Right from the first paragraph:

StarHub recognises that the privacy of your personal information is important to you.

Now I do not know about you lot but when you click on a link given in that email, it brings you to this page which explains it even more. This where it totally pisses me off. Look at the ending bit where it says:

6.3 If you withdraw your consent to any or all use of your Personal Data, depending on the nature of your request, StarHub may not be in a position to continue to provide its Products and Services to you, administer any contractual relationship in place, which in turn may also result in the termination of any agreements with StarHub, and your being in breach of your contractual obligations or undertakings. StarHub’s legal rights and remedies in such event are expressly reserved.

Now that is a threat if there ever was one and I have requested for Starhub to explain to me why they have such a proviso.

Let us see how it goes
