Supermarket network switch rack

While waiting to pay for my groceries at a supermarket yesterday, I happened to glance up and saw that there was a server rack mounted on the wall. The only difference was that there were network switches instead of servers in that rack. From what I noticed about that rack and the switches inside is that the switches were set up in a star topology. The switches in the rack are presumably for the POS terminals and possibly the mobile tagging in use by the store. I have always maintained that the collapsed backbone kind of network is the best way ti prevent long network cable runs. Looks like this supermarket is doing just that!
