Micro-usb to lightning cable adapter

I bought a couple of these micro USB to lightning adapters recently. The reason I did was twofold. For one, my wife has an iPhone and an iPad. These Apple lightning cables are not cheap and they tend to get spoilt pretty easily. So rather than shell out about $15 per cable (I jest you not. That is how much the cheapest some of them cost) when they get broken, I bought this adapter. In this way, I can use some of my micro USB cables to charge my wife’s iPad. Secondly, these things are small. I lost one of them recently and their small size made looking for them almost impossible. So I bought another one a few days back. The cost? $3.90. Ad that is a fraction of the price of those Apple cables. So do what I do…get one of these and use existing micro USB cables to charge iPads, iPhones ans what not. They work really well!

Nokia micro-USB chargers

These are the kind of chargers that come with Nokia phones nowadays. I cannot remember when but at one time, many of the phone manufacturers agreed to have one type of charger to prevent charger wastage. They were right. I have so many of the old type of Nokia charger and I seldom use all of them. At least with this one I can charge my Samsung, my Motorola, and my Nokia 130, which the charger came with. The only grievance I have against this charger is the cable. Its mighty flimsy and I do not think that it will stand up much to harsh handling. But its a darn sight better than the old Nokia chargers!

Nokia 130

I saw this phone some time back and I started thinking to myself that even after Microsoft bought Nokia, they still felt that for emerging markets, basic mobile phones were needed. And that is where the Nokia 130 comes in.

Apparently, With the Nokia 130, you get up to 36 days of standby time and a a very durable phone to boot. And it also comes equipped with a flashlight on the back, Bluetooth to share songs and can take an SD card up to 32Gb in capacity. Maximum music playback time is 46 hours. Pretty good for a basic phone. It seems that it can also playback videos very well. I have yet to see that but I am looking more at the long music playback duration. Specifications-wise:

  • SIM card type: Mini SIM
  • AV connectors: 3.5 mm audio connector
  • Charging connectors: Micro-USB
  • System connectors: Micro-USB-B
  • USB: USB 2.0
  • Bluetooth3: Bluetooth 3.0
  • Bluetooth profiles: Object Push profile (OPP) 1.1

Not too bad. I like the fact that it now uses a micro USB to charge. I freaking hate the old Nokia charges of old. I will definitely be getting this as I saw it for sale in Singapore for less than $40. Great one Nokia!

Apple cum mini-USB adapter

I bought this very useful adaptor from a small shop at the ground floor of my apartment. I have been using it to charge my phone and also my wife’s iPhone, on occasion. It works this way. There are two female USB ports. The curved arrows indicated on the picture above correspond to with USB port is connected to which adapter. So if you lose your adaptor for your iPhone, you can use a Blackberry adapter (the older ones, as what I am using) to charge your iPhone. Not too bad for $5!
