Finally the Standard Chartered Marathon folks acknowledge the fuck-up

16/12/2017 Leave a comment

I complained about this fucking marathon screwing up our lives on that night and then just today, I see this, an article written by a doctor, in the Straits Time Forum page. This is the letter in full:

Several roadblocks were set up to facilitate the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon on Dec 3. However, these were poorly planned and endangered lives.

The roads immediately surrounding Raffles Hospital were blocked off from 1am to 8am that morning.

Those manning the roadblocks were unable to direct traffic and did not allow patients and doctors access to the hospital, even though it was an emergency. Ambulances faced significant delays going in and out of the hospital too.

Patients and doctors had to alight from their cars and taxis several blocks away and continue their journey on foot. At least one patient was bleeding from a miscarriage, while others were in pain.

Another patient who was in premature labour was unable to reach the labour ward in time. She had to deliver in the accident and emergency department, but without her obstetrician’s assistance, as he was still making the trek to the hospital from a distant carpark.

I have never heard of roadblocks in Singapore affecting emergency services so badly. When did the provision of such essential services become a lower priority?

No event, no matter how much of a showcase for the country, should disrupt essential services and compromise the health, safety and livelihood of the infirm and injured in our country.

Chan Wen Yan (Dr)

Spot-on Dr Chan. That is why I was so pissed. But my inconvenience pales to what could happen to people who cannot get proper medical care because of this fuck-up. hey Standard Chartered…this is not the first time. I have written about this before. Next time, hold your marathon in Poyan Reservoir. No one will mind…really!

Foldable electric bicycle

I saw this chained to the fire hose-reel at the lift-landing of my house and I thought to myself that this would be an awesome bike to get. Looks at this bike, it is folded to a pretty small size and is pretty compact. The only thing I worry about is whether or not this electric bike is legal to use here in Singapore. You can use it I suppose but don’t get caught!

Raffles Hotel Singapore undergoing renovation

The iconic Raffles Hotel in Singapore is going through a major facelift and by the looks of it, a rather intensive renovation. I think this renovation is necessary, given the fact that this hotel is very, very old. But I came across something unique while passing it the other day. Raffles Hotel designed a big, painted “cover”of sorts to cover up the hotel so it does not look like it is under renovation. How cool is that?

Sometimes, when places offer free wifi, like in this case Starbucks, be very careful. With all the interest in Bitcoin these days, people will use all means to do some illicit mining. be forewarned!

New Mobike bicycles

Saw some new Mobike bicycles parked near a bus-stop. These new ones have mag wheels, look like they are drive-shaft powered, and the frame looks roomier. I would love to try these when I can.

This is how you hold the microphone

11/12/2017 Leave a comment

I have done many events and many times, I see people, most of the time youngsters, cup the bottom part of the ball mesh. This is the wrong thing to do and so, most of the time, they need to be educated on how to hold the mic. I know it sounds funny but I have actually seen this happen, many a time. If any of you read this, bear this in mind.

Manchester United – 1 vs Manchester City – 2

In about half-an-hour’s time, the Manchester Derby is going to commence, at Old Trafford. It is going to be Manchester United vs Manchester City, Jose vs Pep. Let us see how it pans out.

———- EDITOR’S NOTE ———-

Well we lost by two goals. The first goal was scored by David Silva shortly before half-time before Marcus Rashford pulled one back. Then in the second-half, Otamendi scored for City. And the assists for these two goals? Our very own Romelu Lukaku. Rio Ferdinand was right when he said:
