SCS butter

31/05/2014 1 comment

I have been taking this butter for ages. My mother used to make cakes from it and I do have a block inside my refrigerator that I put on my toast for breakfast sometimes. I was partial to margarine once but now, I only stick to butter and Cold Storage butter is the way to go. Honestly guys, don’t go for margarine. It has lotsa trans-fat. Go for the real thing

Installling new fluorescent lamp in my home

30/05/2014 1 comment

Just the other day, the fluorescent lamp in one of the rooms of my house started flickering and died. I decided to change the whole lamp because the old one was a proprietary model with proprietary tubes. When I bought the new one, which cost me all of $30 including the tube, I began looking for instructions as to how to hook it up. The old fluorescent lamp did not hae a starter. It was very strange. It looked like it had a ballast with a starter built-in already. In any case, back to the story. I looked high and low for a diagram of how to wire it up until I came across this diagram. This diagram shows you how to wire up a circular fluorescent lamp, the correct way. My new lamp is functioning perfectly now and I am very happy with it. So remember. If you guys are looking for a diagram on how to wire up a fluorescent lamp, this is it.

Used toilet rolls for holding cables

29/05/2014 Leave a comment

If there is one thing I have a lot of is cables. Audio cables, XLR microphone cables, IEC cables…you name it, I have it. It used to really mess up my drawers and not to mention my cupboards in my house. I then came across this article on the Internet, one of those DIY articles on how you can make your life more organised. In this article, it said that you can use used toilet roll cardboard tubes to keep your cables tidy. I find this to be a marvelous idea and I now do it all the time. Whenever I use up my toilet rolls, I always keep the remaining cardboard tube. Hey, if it can be recycled for good use, why not? Check out the website here

Roland BA-330 portable PA system

28/05/2014 Leave a comment

There are times when I feel that just one pair of speakers would be sufficient to power a small event like a roadshow. So when I saw this Roland portable PA system, a flicker of interest made me take a good look at this system and what its good points are. For one, it has all the controls behind the speaker. That is good. Also, one great thing about this product is that it can be powered from batteries! Now I have been asked many a time if my portable PA system that I use can be battery-powered and I always give a sad “no”. And you know the best thing about this PA system? It can be mounted on a stand! Some features, according to Roland’s website:

  • – All-in-one portable digital PA system suitable for use anywhere
  • – Powerful high-quality stereo sound for audiences of up to 80 people
  • – No setup required, just plug in and go!
  • – Powered by AC power or eight AA batteries
  • – Four custom-designed 6.5” speakers and two tweeters for wide stereo projection
  • – Built-in effects: EQ, reverb, delay, and wide (on/off per channel)
  • – Four-channel configuration: two channels for mic/instruments plus two channels for stereo inputs
  • – Stereo Aux input with dedicated volume-control knob
  • – Advanced Intelligent Anti-Feedback function
  • – Built-in tilt-back stand enables optimal monitoring angle
  • – Speaker-stand adaptor for mounting on a standard speaker stand

Nice. I like. It may only have 6 channels and a mediocre equalization available but I must say that its interesting

Mini Android computer is dead

27/05/2014 Leave a comment

Remember sometime last year, I wrote about buying one of these Android mini computers? Well, I tried it a few days back and the thing was dead. It would not even power on. Oh well. I suppose when you pay your money, you get what you pay for.  I think I will get a new one to try out again. I kinda miss this gadget!

Roy Chuang and 18 Chefs

26/05/2014 Leave a comment

I got this from Melissa Wix’s Facebook page and I must say that I am pretty disgusted with this Roy Chuang fella. Come on man. If you don’t like the food, you did not have to empty it all over the table and said it tastes worse than dog food. It certainly says a lot about your upbringing. In any case, do you know what the owner of 18 Chefs does? He hires ex-convicts in his restaurant so that these people will have second chance in life and learn a new skill. I bet that fact did not even sink into your skull, did it? Even if you did not, it does not give you a reason to act in such a way. You may be a famous photographer but to me, you are one disgusting individual.

MK809IV mini Android computer

One of my colleagues bought this mini Android computer. I have a similar one I bought over a year ago but after trying this one, my old one all of a sudden feels very slow. This baby comes with a quad core chip, 8GB ROM and 2GB DDR3 RAM. I have read online that this little Android box is capable of playing videos very well, something that my old Android stick has difficulty in playing.

See that little red tab down there. I did not know what it was till I went online. Its an extendable built-in WiFi antenna and that means that wifi signals are now better, much better than the inbuilt one on my little Android box. My Android mini computer seems to have difficulties in picking up wifi and can be a real pain in the arse. And for power? Yes, it looks like it is still supplied with the flaky power supply that mine was given…5V into 2A.

Tempting indeed but for the time being, I think I will stick with mine

Yes, it needs power supply(DC 5V, 2A)

Damn Yankees – High Enough

24/05/2014 Leave a comment

There are some songs that stick in your head forever. This is one of them. Its a song by the Damn Yankees and its called High Enough. When I first heard this song in the late 80s, I was hooked. I used to use it as the last song in the bar I was spinning at and everyone loved this song. It could be searing guitar work by Ted Nugent or it could be Tommy Shaw’s vocals. But whetever it is, it is a great song and is  one of my favourites. The video is right below:

One of my friends brought this in to work the other day and I can honestly say that I am hooked. Very rich and creamy it is and worth the price paid. I wonder if I can get this in Singapore? Probably in Marks and Spencers

Mentos Pure Fresh chewing gum

22/05/2014 Leave a comment

Whenever I am overseas, I will always pick up a couple of bottles for my wife, who loves it. I must admit I like this better than the Wrigley’s chewing gum. After chewing for a while, Wrigley’s turns ti paste but not the Mentos. Trust me on this…worth it! And the best part? Its sugar-free!
